Clear traceability of plastic waste

MPM is a digital platform that manages plastic-waste recovery by tracking shipment orders, certifying recovered material on blockchain, and visualizing the impact generated by suppliers and recyclers. As a business, it professionalizes B2B relationships, turns an operational process into verifiable evidence, and builds trust through public certificates and clear plastic-recovery metrics.

Context

Context

In industrial plastic-waste management, there is often a gap between what companies claim they do with their waste and what can actually be verified. Operations rely on informal communication, incomplete records, and low traceability, creating friction, uncertainty, and inconsistent standards between suppliers and recyclers. Maderas Plásticas Mendoza needed a system that organizes the end-to-end flow: coordinate shipments, validate received material, and formalize outcomes through verifiable certification, plus an impact layer that communicates recovered volume with simple references.

My role

My role

I worked as the Product Designer / UX-UI Designer, leading end-to-end product design. I started by aligning expectations with stakeholders and proposing a roadmap-based way of working with clear deliverables to reduce uncertainty and speed up decisions. I translated a complex operational challenge into an understandable system: defining actors, scope, and business rules, and turning requirements into consistent flows, screens, and states so the platform behaves like a coherent logistics chain. I also crafted key content (microcopy and explanatory text) to reduce friction, clarify billing/conditions, and reinforce a positive impact narrative.

Goals

Goals

The primary goal was to design a platform that simplifies creating and managing shipment orders, reduces friction between companies, and organizes operations with real traceability. In addition, it needed to enable blockchain-verifiable certification for each successful order and provide reporting that communicates impact clearly, focused on kilograms/tons of recovered plastic, so both suppliers and recyclers can communicate outcomes and sustain the system over time.

User persona

User persona

Users fall into two main profiles with complementary needs. On one side, the supplier is a company that generates plastic waste and needs a simple way to coordinate shipments, meet traceability standards, and obtain certificates that can be shared internally or with third parties. Their priority is to operate quickly, understand conditions clearly, and have formal proof of what was delivered. On the other side, the recycler manages the plant and needs to control scheduling and capacity, record real reception data, and ensure the process is consistent so certificates are issued with reliable, verifiable information.

Solution

Solution

The solution is a platform with two connected experiences, supplier and recycler, that work as a coherent logistics chain. The supplier can initiate an order, provide the essential data, understand weighing and billing conditions, and track status through confirmation. The recycler manages the operational queue, accepts or reschedules shipments, records reception with validated weighing, and when the order is successfully completed, issues a blockchain certificate with verifiable data. The product closes the loop with impact visualization based on recovered kilograms/tons and equivalents to communicate results.

Timeline

Timeline

I began by proposing a kickoff meeting to explain how we would work, align expectations, and give stakeholders space to raise questions early. With that foundation, we entered an intense discovery phase where it was critical to understand highly niche user personas and the real relationship between companies in the chain. From there, we ran deep working sessions to translate requirements into concrete flows and early wireframes, iterating quickly with feedback. After multiple tests, we reached a stable version ready for high-fidelity design; in hi-fi, we refined concepts discovered during flow closure. Development started once flows were tested and approved, and a few weeks after hi-fi was finalized we began testing the implementation.

Team

Team

The team included Product Design & UX/UI (me), stakeholders from Maderas Plásticas Mendoza, a full-stack engineer, and a commercial profile. Using a shared working framework and a predefined roadmap, we collaborated across all stages, bringing different perspectives to problems and validating product decisions against real operational constraints, technical feasibility, and business goals.

Impact

Impact

The outcome is a solid digital foundation for professionalizing plastic-waste recovery: a system that organizes shipments, makes recovered material verifiable, and enables blockchain certificates as reliable proof. The platform increases transparency and trust between companies, reduces operational uncertainty, and makes it easier to communicate impact in simple terms based on recovered kilograms/tons. It also provides a scalable framework to onboard new suppliers, increase recovered volume, and sustain a consistent standard for traceability and certification.
